Accessibility

We want everyone to be able to use barkwoo.com, including people who use a keyboard, a screen reader, magnification or other assistive technology.

Our goal

We aim to meet the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.1 at level AA. This is a goal we work toward, not a claim that every page meets it today. We check new pages and changes against it as we build them.

What we do

  • Keyboard access. You can reach links, buttons, menus and the cart with a keyboard. A "Skip to content" link lets you jump past the header.
  • Visible focus. The item you're on with the keyboard is outlined, so you can see where you are.
  • Text alternatives. Meaningful images have alt text that describes them.
  • Colour contrast. We choose text and background colours to meet the AA contrast ratios.
  • Motion you control. The announcement bar at the top of the page has a pause button. If your device is set to reduce motion, it doesn't rotate on its own.
  • No surprise sound. Music on our site only plays when you press play, and you can pause it at any time.
  • Page structure. We use headings, labels and landmarks so screen readers can move around each page.

Known limitations

Some parts of the site are provided by other companies. We choose them with care, but we can't fully control how accessible they are:

  • Customer reviews, shown by Judge.me.
  • Email sign-up pop-ups, shown by Klaviyo.
  • Checkout and payment, run by Shopify and the payment providers.

If one of these gets in your way, tell us. We'll do our best to help, and we'll pass the problem on to the provider.
